Questions tenants ask us

In most cases your landlord must serve a valid notice and obtain a court order before you can be made to leave. Don't leave or stop paying rent before getting advice.

Report it to your landlord in writing and keep photos. If repairs aren't carried out, we can help you take action and claim compensation.

Landlords must protect deposits in a government-approved scheme and give you the prescribed information. If they haven't, you may be entitled to compensation.

HLPAS advice is free, and many housing cases qualify for Legal Aid. Where neither applies, we'll give you a clear estimate of costs before any work starts.
